Haven’t we all dressed up for a luau party at some point in our life? I hit the Hawaiian General Store on 45th to pick up some duds for Freddie and Lance’s luau party. I couldn’t find a dress that wasn’t a muumuu or just flat out wrong. I opted for a sarong.
I dropped in at the Turkish restaurant/store next door. I was craving Turkish coffee. It took me back to Istanbul. The shop owner invited me to her table and to share her Turkish sunflower seeds.
We chatted about her upbringing, her Laotian husband, her 2 year old daughter, Lakewood, her extended family, Turkey, Korea, how to make Turkish coffee and tea, US military, the War, and so much more... It was nice.
I love the packaging on carbonated water and sunflower seeds.

I was late to my own birthday party. I couldn’t help it – I couldn’t find my camera. I didn’t even have enough time to run to the market to pick up more film for one of my Polarioids. Sadly, I wasn’t able to document much of the fun, fun night. Thanks Izaak for the additional photos.
Party started at Rachel’s.
We all received lovely hats – I opted for the less fancy ones to sport a 'Pigs are good for Iowa' hat. The hats come straight from the Iowa state fair where Rachel picked them up 2 weeks back.
Diane, an amazing chef, whipped up yummy food and baked her famous Chocolate Cherry cake. After dinner, some of us headed to Sunset Bowl to get our bowl on and then of course, karaoke!
You know what I love about bowling – Budweiser in bowling pin shaped bottles and bowling monikers. I go by Coco and my posse consisted of Roach, Jesus, Lola, Bottomsup, Peaches, and Hiya.
Karaoke was awesome but very short lived. Karaoke man stops his show at 1am. It took us a bit to review all the songs in the 3 inch binder. Given he was about to close shop in 15 mins, Kim requested one song that we all could sing. Mr. Karaoke man came over and told us that we were too slow in choosing our song, next time we should show up earlier and that we were the last song... no pressure dude – no really.
Roach, Peaches, Hiya and I rocked out to ‘I Love Rock and Roll’. I wish so badly that I was sporting my Joan Jett hair! We rocked out – we almost started a riot because we were so hot. All the boys in the bar were so lovin’ us. A few crept to the singing area and sang along with us. After our song, Mr. Karaoke man told us we were great, that he loved us, and that we should come again... maybe if he’s lucky.
Although karaoke was over, we continued to keep things rolling. Put money in to the jukebox and we got our groove on. Diane showed us some pimp moves that she learned from her ultra cool co-worker. We were sorely disappointed that they didn’t have Britney Spear’s Toxic, but not as much as Roach. She’s got a thing for Toxic. We all decided that we have one year to perfect a dance routine for Toxic. Can’t wait for 32.

Every year on my birthday, I buy all the local newspapers and surf the net to read my birthday horoscope. Yesterday I found a great site on line where it gives you a horoscope based on the day you were born. I thought about posting it but didn't think it was Link Links ready. But this morning, Balt sent me the same link! It's official, it's Link Links ready. Here is my birthday horoscope...
YOUR BIRTHDAY: 1 September (VIRGO)
Your personal ruling planets are Mercury and Sun.
You pride yourself on the creative initiatives that you take, even though you may not be an artist. The Sun gives you a radiant personality which you often enhance with your fine dress and accessories. Somehow people just gravitate towards you, emulating you and feeling that you're the leader of the pack. As a result of this it is very likely that you will attain some position of authority where power will be invested in you.
You also take pride in the stability of friendships, being very loyal, but at the same time proud. Fortunately your generosity outweighs your pride and your friends often realize and see through these traits of nature. You will constantly broaden your mental horizons and find great satisfaction from your 28th year.
Your lucky colours are copper and gold.
Your lucky gem is Ruby.
Your lucky days of the week are Sunday, Monday and Thursday.

Check out Korean Film Festival to view the schedule. The Korean film scene has been blowing up all over Asia for years and just now getting some hot press state side. Every time I meet an Asian who has recently moved to the States and realizes that I'm Korean, the first thing they tell me is that they love Korean films and soap operas.
The city of Pusan, my birthplace, is a huge sponsor and puts a lot of money into the film industry. The Pusan International Film Festival is famous all over Asia and often viewed as the best International Film Festival in Asia. Recently they had a international call for entries for the redevelopment of the area that hosts the PIFF. It's only getting better.
