Lots of puttering this weekend... where do I begin? Or what day do I share? On Saturday, I brought along Dave to be my co-putterer. Dave and I started our day of puttering at Roq la Rue. Their current show – The Devil’s Hobby Hut – features work by Charles Krafft and Frank Kozik. The show is okay. Krafft’s Disasterware plates and weaponry are nice but they don’t do much for me. There are only few pieces by Kozik and I wish they showed more of his work. Kozik’s smoking bunnies with the detachable backs are super cool. You can see the skeletal system of the bunnies.

Next stop – one block down to Mama’s Mexican Kitchen for lunch. It felt good eating tasty grub and drinking a rum and coke in the sun.
After lunch, we didn’t get very far. I felt like hanging out in the sun and drinking some beers. We walked next door to one of my favorite bars in town, the Lava Lounge.
Halfway into our first pitcher, a street artist, Brian Pascal, asked if we were interested in getting our portraits done. Of course I was. $15 dollars and 15 minutes later, Brian handed me our drawing. It’s rad.
I love the whole tropical theme – the dope waterfall, the palm trees, the bling on the tiki mask, and my tropical girlie drink.
Brian is a cool cat. Even with his stutter, he’s a smooth talker.
After we killed another pitcher, we headed to Uwajimaya for some treats to take over to the McMullen’s. We picked up some Ichiban, Hello Kitty Choco Pies (they taste best frozen), wasabi peas, fortune cookies, and ‘Japanese Kitty Gum’ that comes with a Kitty driver license trading card.
The McMullens are part of the team that designed and built the Machine. The Machine is a five-story wood-and-steel structure that incorporates motion, sound, lights, smells and performance into a mammoth kinetic sculpture. It is largely funded by Burning Man and is traveling there. They are headed out tomorrow to help set it up. I gave Michelle the Kitty driver license as a good luck token to ward off cops. Too bad I can’t post an image of the trading card but the wrapper is still pretty damn cool. And you can see a mini version of the license in the bottom right corner.

Our full day of puttering ended when we closed the 9 lb. bar down. The 9lb. is in Georgetown and definately worth the trip if you haven’t checked out this bar. I was there this past Friday night celebrating my Korean birthday and wouldn’t you know – I ran into a Toshi’s customer! I can’t go anywhere in this town without running into one of our customers. The best part though – Boo was checking out a dude that was with Matt.
